This is a horror story we’ve heard too many times unfortunately…….
A person wishes to get fit, signs up to a gym, is promised the world – but is left by themselves to navigate a crowded room, packed with equipment, they don’t have any idea how to use.
(They were shown by an enthusiastic personal trainer on their ‘induction’ but they’ve disappeared now!!)
This usually lasts 2, possibly 3 weeks if they’re determined. Then it’s back to the couch believing that: gyms don’t work!
Welcome to the commercial gym – “pack ’em in, lose them as quick“!
Let’s say you go to a class (because you forgot how to use the gym) It SHOULD be easier in there with the supervision of a trainer looking after you right?
Well, not always!
The trainer knows nothing about you, your experience, your injuries, your limitations, your preferences, your personality – it’s one size fit all.
Meaning, people are often left to feel inadequate, silly, embarrassed – because they can’t keep up, weren’t guided correctly and made some mistakes.
This too is a great reason not to return!!
Thankfully we don’t have this issue at our gym in Ely, as we place great emphasis on INCLUSIVITY. Meaning, anyone can really slot into our training programs.
Please let me give you an example:
Tracy, 55, hasn’t trained in 30 years and wants to finally get fit, tone up, feel better, get stronger. She’s anxious, has no idea what’s going to happen, has thought about NOT going (on the day) and is worried she’ll be the biggest/slowest/worst in the room, slowing people down.
In the session is Peter, 50, who’s trained with us for 5 years and is pretty self-sufficient – but still comes because he lovers the training, the environment, the banter, the challenge.
We’re deadlifting that day (for those that don’t know it’s considered the KING of the Exercises, very technical, difficult to master, take time).
Peter needs little coaching and cracks on, lifting 120kg. No problem.
Tracy looks **TERRIFIED**. (Thinking she’ll have to do that). But … we don’t even think about her lifting anything yet. She needs to simple learn how to move her body, move her hips and simply touch a ball placed in front of her.
Only at the correct time, when things look good, will we even give her a weight to hold. Then we patiently build up her confidence, increasing the load gradually, until she’s an expert herself!
So – two VERY DIFFERENT people working together, being successful, being coached, having things tailored to them individually.
That’s the epic beauty of SGPT (Small Group Personal Training). Which is essentially 121 training is a small, tight knit group of people.
We believe – and can show – that this is really what people need — some guidance, coaching, support and fun with their fitness.
Think back to the crowded gym and the unsupervised class. Totally different experiences.
With this in mind, we have great news: We’ve opened the doors to our Beginner’s program which helps novices learn about strength and conditioning in the exact environment I’ve described.
If you’ve been through the horror stories above and don’t wish to go through the same experience again, this is perfect for you!
We guarantee you’ll become stronger, more toned, fitter, happier, your clothes will hang more nicely and your energy and confidence will sky-rocket.
