Fitness is boring!
Yep, I agree. And it’s a good thing. Because it makes things EASY.
Let me explain …….
People who are ‘fit’ are just good at doing the boring, simple, basic stuff. Every. Single. Day.
They’re good at repeating:
- Walking every day
- Weekly exercise
- Tracking their food
- Drinking water daily
- Going to bed
- Putting the phone away
- Limiting alcohol
- Making ‘treats’ occasional
Not rocket science really, is it?
‘Fit’ people aren’t looking for entertainment and variety with their lifestyle, nutrition and exercise. They don’t jump onto a different program after a few weeks, or chase another diet because it doesn’t work.
Nor do they complicate the process. Complicated creates complexity and barriers and pitfalls. At our personal training gym in Ely we like to simplify.
Fitness ‘nuts’ do the daily grind of, simple stuff, repeated consistently. They take a deep breath and get under the bar, even when they don’t feel like it. They prepare breakfast the night before, because it’s easier. They plan more. They walk (even for ten mins) when a spreadsheet is drawing their attention.
Individually, all the above habits are easy. It’s not like someone’s asking us to study for a nuclear physics exam.
But maintaining the consistency, being able to relax (or fall off track – and get back) – is the HARD part. And that’s good too. Hard stuff makes you improve.
Imagine playing a 3-year old’s, 4 piece jigsaw puzzle every day. You’d get bored quite quickly!
Something hard, that challenges you, makes you improve, you get up many times when you fall, you become resilient over time – builds your confidence beyond belief. Crack that, you can crack anything.
So fitness is boring, easy and hard. We need to get used to it. 🙂
