You’re In The Army Now!!

Would You Enjoyed Being Beasted?

We chuckled recently whilst speaking with a new recruit, a 50+ lady, who joined our strength programs.

She told us: “I’ve done PT before but it wasn’t for me. Being shouted at by a 20 year old at 6am!”

“And then being lectured about calories and ‘making time’ from someone young enough to be my daughter. No thank you”.

This woman was a busy professional, senior within a construction company, who had come through some hefty health issues, so there was a definite gap in experience between the two it seemed, to say the least.

Thankfully, (we hope) not all fitness professionals behave in this way but there *might* be a lingering idea within the fitness industry that everyone should find fitness easy (and PT’s get frustrated when you don’t follow the blueprint).

The Personal Trainer P.O.V (point of view) …….

A *GREAT* personal trainer – it’s thought –  is he/she who makes the most noise, pushes you the hardest, smiles when you stagger sideways to be sick, LOVES to hear about the pain you’re in, makes you lift heavier than you’re capable of. (OUCH!)

Let’s be fair, that could be ok, if we were all training 20-somethings who worked injury free, with boundless energy, who could train every day, fresh as a daisy, whose make up didn’t smudge once during their workout!

But after 40? Meh!

We need a different type of animal we believe!

We need an empathetic, knowledgeable, flexible (in mindset), caring, passionate creature who can be the authority in the room.

– Hazel comes in drained from a poor sleep? We don’t smash her. We energise her gently.
–  John turns up with an injury? We pivot and tailor his workout.
– Mary is just feeling low. We make her feel successful and positive.
– Tony wants to push himself harder but the coach advises patience.

AND……

We need to educate 40+ people that they don’t need to be SMASHED every session anymore (like in their 20s). They need a gradual, patient, progressive strength program that fits into their routine and that they can manage, injury free, consistently.

We feel that it’s the environment supports hard work, not the screaming coach.

The people you surround yourself with, who are similar to you, work hard, spur you on, still congratulate when you fail, cheer when you succeed, the coach who is honest and helpful.

It’s hard enough to get up at 5am to exercise, or to even cross the door when you don’t feel like it, at any time, after a hard day.

So WHY would we want to be screamed or lectured at?? When we’re not in the army!!

You will NOT find that at our personal training gym in Ely. Guaranteed. 🙂
